Who said that a clinic should look cold and impersonal?

The design for the expansion of the Clínica Ofelia Casanueva in Santander by Aedificare proves that functional and welcoming can go hand in hand. The priority for the project was to “design a clinic that didn’t seem like a clinic”. Thus, the new extension, dedicated to aesthetic hair and dermatological medicine, has been transformed into a welcoming space where the patient can feel at home. An attractive atmosphere where the materials are in perfect dialogue. The designers stripped the space down to the original concrete structure of the building and turned it into a feature. The cool feel of the concrete and micro-cement are balanced with the warmth of natural oak wood, sett flooring, cellular polycarbonate and a customised mosaic tile design for the bathroom floor.

Klein Blue serves as a common theme throughout the space. This iconic colour, which redefined the way to conceive of art
and space, is present in a multitude of textiles, mouldings, surfaces and furnishings. Circular and curved elements are an essential part of the project, found in the rear of the reception area, in details of the sett floor, in the circular curtains of the waiting room, the carpets and curved enclosures of the main offices or in the rounded edges throughout the space.
Another one of the most attractive features of the project is the flexibility of the spaces. The circular curtains, extending
360º, allow the waiting room to the transformed as necessary, open or partially closed, for a space that offers privacy
and lots of possibilities.

He striking and vivid bathroom is another gem of the clinic. Aedificare looked to local products from Cantabria to add a touch of uniqueness and sophistication to the project. Furnished with a Detroit sink from Bathco and a customised floor design by Hisbalit, the bathroom combines elegance and modernity while the wood panelling adds a feel of elegance and calm, with the orange neon sign on Denim wallpaper is a clear declaration of principles.
A careful choice of floor tiles was essential. The studio was looking for a design with character that would give personality and harmony to the space. They selected the Diagramm reference from Hisbalit’s Doppel Design collection, creating a geometric pattern using rectangular tesserae of exact proportions. The elegant and minimalist design combined with a harmonious colour palette and matte finish, create a surface that is aesthetically striking and timeless.
